Clay Bars need some sort of lubricant to work properly. Without lubricant, the product will also pick up contamination, but will not absorb it properly. This may result in light scratches or marring. Clay Bars like this one are made to work with a Clay Bar lubricant (Luber or Detail Spray) to allow the Clay Bar to move freely over the surface. The lubricant ensures that the Clay can better pull particles out of the paint and prevents the risk of scratches.
